102nd Battalion Memorial Cross Pair with BWM to to Lieutenant Ernest Leslie McLeod Gleason, Victoria, B.C.

Ernest Leslie McLeod Gleason was born on 22 April 1895. Married Rose Simpson on 23rd August 1910 in Victoria and they resided at  611 Superior St., Victoria, British Columbia. A Carpenter by occupation, he was a pre-war member of the 50th Gordon Highlanders of Canada and an ex-member of the 5th C.G.A. with 5 years experience. Attested 1st Sept. 1915 at Victoria into the 67th Battalion. Promoted to Sergeant on 15th June 1916 and Temporary Lieutenant on 14th Feb. 1917. On 1st May 1917 he was transferred to the 102nd Battalion. He was Killed in action in the Trenches in the vicinity of Lens with the 102nd North British Columbians. Promoted to Sergeant on He lies buried in Villers Station Military Cemetery, Villers-au-Bois, France.

Papers on-line confirm that two crosses were issued. His BWM is now re-united with the Crosses (3).
