75th Battalion CEF WW1 Memorial Cross to Ganyan

220343 L. Cpl. C.A. GANYAN

Charles Acle Ganyan was born 28th August 1892 at Kaladar, Ontario and was a pre-war member of the Militia having served in the 15th Regt 3 years, 16th 2 years and 4th Hussars 1 year. For a period from 23/12/16 - 14/4/17 he was attached to 182nd Tunnelling Company.

He was KIA 9th August 1918 whilst working a machine gun during an attack on the village of Le Quesnel in front of Amiens. He lies buried in Caix New British Cemetery.

On 9 August, the 75th assaulted and took Le Quesnel at great cost: five officers killed and six wounded, and 122 other ranks killed, wounded, or missing. Amiens is rightly touted as a triumph of all arms warfare, but even so, as Stewart says, “The 75th had made a frontal assault on entrenched German positions in Le Quesnel without supporting airplanes, artillery, cavalry, motor machine guns, tanks, or other infantry formations on an exposed right flank, and it took more than eighty prisoners”

Good VF in case with ribbon.
